This year’s Paddle Round The Pier, sponsored by
Feelfit, sees two great surf races for those who really want to push
themselves and raise money for three great charities, plus two very
different surf comps. The Errant Surf
Holiday Pier to Pier race will see competitors paddle boards over 9’
from the Brighton Pier to the West Pier – a distance of over two miles
and against the current.
There are two categories for the race – ‘Pros’
which takes place on Saturday and ‘Amateurs’ which takes place on the
Sunday.
The winners of each category will receive a week’s
holiday to northern Spain, courtesy of Errant Surf Holidays. Previous
winners of this race include Elliot Dudley, Nick Thorne and Richard
Balding

And this year’s event sees the return of Europe’s
biggest endurance SUP distance competition, with the SurfAid
International Euro-Enduro SUP Race. This will see competitors from
across the globe race from Brighton to Worthing and back, some 20 miles
of paddling which promises to sort out the men from the boys. With
£2000, of prize money up for grabs, competition will be fierce.
A1Surf.com, in association with Alder, will be
hosting a groms surf comp on the Saturday of the event, but this one is
for the stars of the next decade as it will be open to Under 7’s.
Adding to the fun will be Lagoon Watersport’s
Surfing Dogs competition, with man’s best friend ripping it up.
Dave Samuel, Paddle Director, said “The Paddle
Round The Pier is now well established as the fun event with the
international reputation. We all raise some large amounts of money for
great causes whilst having a party in the sea and on the beach – what
more could anyone want?”
The Paddle Round The Pier, sponsored by Feelfit,
is looking to raise in excess of £20,000 for this year’s charities – The
RNLI, SurfAid International and local children’s charity, The
Rockinghorse Appeal.
Around 20,000 surfers and other watersports users
are expected to head to the event across the weekend.
